Signs of a Bad Car Battery

Since your car battery controls the electrical components of your vehicle, any issues with lighting and startup operations are a sure sign of battery issues.

The following are common signs your battery is going bad:

What to Expect During Your Car Battery Replacement

System Diagnostic

Our technicians complete a comprehensive evaluation of your car battery components to determine the state of its charge and ability to turn the engine over. We also conduct a visual inspection to determine if your battery has sustained damage or developed corrosion, which could require a replacement.

Battery Sizing

Determining the correct battery size for your vehicle supports optimal performance, especially during the colder months of the year that drain its power. Sizing includes assessing the group size, cold cranking amps, reserve capacity, voltage, terminal orientation and manufacturer’s recommendations. We also assess battery type to determine if gel, flooded or absorbent glass mat batteries will provide the best power for your vehicle.

Battery Replacement

Our car battery replacement service begins with disconnecting your old battery before removing it from your vehicle. The new battery is installed and secured with clamps or brackets if necessary. Our technicians reconnect the positive and negative terminals and test the battery by starting your vehicle and checking the electrical systems, including your lights, radio and accessories. We dispose of the old battery once the service is complete.

Battery Testing

During battery testing, we assess the voltage, charge, internal resistance and load to determine how well your battery delivers power to the engine. Completing those tests allows our technicians to identify the cause of the battery failure and determine if repairs are possible.

FAQ

Yes. You can bring old car batteries to any of the locations listed above.
Yes. Cold temperatures can result in reduced chemical reactions, increased internal resistance and accelerated battery discharge, making it more difficult to start your vehicle. High temperatures can increase the rate of electrolyte evaporation, cause overcharging and possibly warp battery plates.
A car battery usually lasts three to five years.
Your car battery may wear at an increased rate or lose its charge prematurely if it’s consistently exposed to extreme temperatures. You can also drain your battery if you leave electrical components on or take short trips frequently without allowing the battery to fully charge.
Check for issues and signs of damage or corrosion. Try jump-starting your vehicle with jumper cables, attaching one red clamp to the dead battery then the other to the working battery of another vehicle. Attach the black clamps in the same order. A portable battery charger can also do the job. Call for roadside assistance if you can’t get your engine to turn over.
